At Aqua Nor 2023, Sensor Globe was awarded the Innovation Award for its groundbreaking monitoring solution in aquaculture. Their technology provides fish farmers with real-time insights into phases of the production cycle that have traditionally been difficult to monitor – elevating both fish welfare and operational efficiency.
– Winning the Innovation Award at Aqua Nor was, first and foremost, recognition that we’ve created a product that addresses real and critical needs in the industry. From the beginning we`ve been working close to the users. They have the hands-on experience and know what works in the real world says the team behind Sensor Globe.
Recognition that matters
The award has already had a tangible impact on the company. It has led to increased visibility and opened new doors.
– We’ve seen a clear increase in interest from investors, customers, and potential partners. The award has helped us move forward with our development and accelerated strategic collaborations, says Sheamus MacDonald, co-founder and CEO at Senor Globe.
Real-time insight across the entire production cycle
What makes Sensor Globe unique is its ability to provide continuous monitoring across the full value chain of salmon farming. The platform – consisting of sensors and software – collects real-time data during critical phases of the fish’s life cycle, including those that have traditionally been “blind spots.”
– For hatcheries and post-smolt producers, it’s a valuable tool during grading, transport, and verification of pipeline infrastructure. In sea-based phases, we monitor the fish through delousing, crowding, well boat transport, and holding pens. This gives producers crucial insight into the conditions their fish are actually experiencing, says Head of Product, Sebastian Gjertsen.
Sensor Globe’s solution offers new data where there was previously little or none – enabling better decision-making and contributing to improved fish welfare.
Fish welfare – still a major challenge
Asked about the most pressing challenges in aquaculture today, Sensor Globe points to mortality and fish handling.
– It doesn’t matter if it’s land-based, a well boat, or a sea pen – handling remains a significant threat to fish welfare. Our technology is one of the first designed to be truly scalable across all production methods, which makes it uniquely valuable for the industry, says co-founder and CTO, Aleksandr Stabenow.
Scaling up in Norway – and beyond
Sensor Globe is currently focused on expanding in the Norwegian market, while also making headway internationally.
– We continue to work closely with our customers in Norway and are scaling up operations to meet increasing demand. At the same time, we’ve already sold our product to all the major salmon-producing regions globally, Stabenow concludes.
